365 Day Project: 62

Today, started early. I had planned on getting so much done but then kiddos woke up. Super glad that the hubby pushed to take me to a fundraising event that supports the local pagan community but also where the kindred had a booth. It was awesome sitting there talking with everyone and I learned so much in so little time about Norse beliefs and ways. I also walked away with two goals for myself. One is a little more difficult than the other but those are for a late post.

This morning I completed a small goal of building the lego set that my husband purchased. I zone all the stress and anxiety out. I put my earbuds in that played an audiobook in my ears and my hands and eyes went to work. I decided I need larger sets that have more bricks and larger scale but the Harry Potter Aragog’s Lair was exactly what the doctor ordered and helped me prepare for the socializing that I did today.

The picture I took is a perfect example of how I feel at times so it’s symbolic to me.

365 Day Project: 61

Coffee shop date with my younger kiddo was fun. He brought his tablet and toys to take pictures of and I was able to show him how to use the natural light that was available. His pictures turned out pretty good with the camera app that’s available on the Kindle. I went towards the moody side of things and even tried choosing a color palette that isn’t what you would think of warm, ‘coffee shop’ tones. This little lost kitty sure looks happy to get his coffee.

365 Day Project: 60

I learned something new today about my employer but that’s for a different post. This little guy was SUPER hard to take a picture of with the cell phone. I didn’t even care who seen me walking with it. I wanted something ominous and lurking and I think I only achieved a part of that. Still not bad for a little toy.

365 Day Project: 56

I almost said, ‘FU%$ IT!’ and went to bed after the day I had. Who knew that sticking up for yourself to ensure sanity was a crime? I also took another assessment on a job website which I’m pretty sure I failed and just…it was just a Monday, to say the least.

As I was searching for an idea for my photo for today I just wasn’t feeling it. Found this little guy and started staging with toilet paper and found that the anxiety was starting to calm inside me. It was great to feel excitement and purpose doing my project and it was about time (today). I need to take a black and white portrait photo of myself so I think I’ll focus on that tomorrow.

365 Day Project: 55

It was the wind that woke me up in the middle of the night. Well, that and the pelting rain and then an hour later it was high wind and snow. We can’t catch a break here in Wisconsin. Instead of staying inside or being able to drive anywhere (as in the roads are icy and treacherous with the blowing snow), I decided to go right out in my front yard. My husband found me an Elsa doll by the registers and I thought it would be a perfect day to use her.

The wind was horrible and I couldn’t feel my fingers. There were several trips in and out of the house to get breaks but I was able to build a small snowman to accompany the queen. Now that I’m running late thanks to an, ‘I told you so,’ conversation with my mother I can catch my breath and get down to some much-needed art and writing therapy.

365 Day Project: 54

My son is an awesome supporter and little walking reminder of everything. Literally, EVERYTHING. We have started a new tradition for just me and him where we go to a local coffee shop and have coffee together. Ok, I have coffee and he has hot chocolate. I ask them to add things and he gets it in a special mug so he feels adultish. I have now incurred duplicate of the lost kitties toys and he asked if the could have them. I didn’t know what for but sure kiddo, you can have them.

We got to the coffee shop (via my husband dropping us off with the road conditions) and he handed me a lost kitty and then took one of his out of his pocket and his Amazon tablet. ‘I’m going to start taking pictures now too.’ Y’all! I nearly started crying. I asked him why he would like to start taking photos and he said, ‘It’s so I can get better like you are. You look like you’re having fun and we get to play with toys.’ ‘That’s awesome little dude and playing with toys is the bonus part.’ So, we sat and drank our coffee going over our pictures while we were in the shop. Hex codes for the complementary color palette are listed below. This little sign was by the register. Happy Saturday Y’all.

Oh, I had to share the picture my son took on his tablet. I wish I could get him a better camera.

365 Day Project: 53

The Saturday errands on a Friday night is stressful especially when everyone else in the town. All of which have the same mentality about getting everything done before the ice and snow settle in. During errands, everyone got hungry and we made a quick stop at McDonald’s. And WOW! When did McDonald’s food have NO FLAVOR! I had one of the worst salads EVER and the fries were bland. Anywho…my son pulled the kitty toy out of his pocket. Talk about being supportive. This is tonight’s picture. Happy Friday Y’all!

365 Day Project: 51

Ugh, the snow…and snow…AND MORE SNOW! Ran errands, took the kid to work and shoveled the walks. I was happy to make an image with this cute little guy wearing oversized glasses. He’s literally 1/2″ tall and I had the most difficult time getting my cell phone to focus on him. I’ve learned where I take photos here at the kitchen table the lights cause yellowing in the photos. Even though I edit a lot of that out I need to really devote some time to figuring out lighting tricks and extras. The custom color palette is listed below from left to right. Happy Wednesday!

365 Day Project: 50

Wow! Day 50 leaving 315 days left. I would like to say that I’m improving but I’m also biased and to close to the project (any feedback from fellow cell phone photographers would be greatly appreciated). So, we have another snow system moving in tomorrow and then another one over the weekend so that would make it snow storm #455ninerWTF! I’m trying to get used to finding obsolete objects or figure to photograph with not being able to drive around and scout a location.

Tonight I chose the VW van toy car and took it outside while the snow and ice melted in certain areas of the driveway. The image SCREAMED for me to use a grainy retro filter and I think it’s the cutest thing ever! I wish I had thought to grab my micro lens but I had a difficult time getting my cell phone camera to focus on the car by itself. I know if I had a lens there was no way I could have gotten a decent focus.

365 Day Project: 48

Let me set the situation stage here. My stomach HATES me right now, two older kids visiting friends, and I don’t feel like cooking breakfast. My husband takes us all out to iHop and the only thing I needed to do was get myself ready. We get there and my son surprises me with a ‘Joker in Disguise’ toy figure. ‘Mom, you can use this one today.’ The family is really starting to get into helping me find something to photograph and especially the toy macro photos.

My son sat next to me and we were trying to figure out the best pose and place for Joker to have his photo taken. We were placing him on syrup and looking at the menu and my husband suggested how about Joker with a fork. Y’all, we were having so much fun when I heard, ‘She’s got an extra lens on her phone trying to capture her 5 minutes of fame.’ Then some other comments about being one of the Instagram idiots and so on. I immediately started to put everything away when my little knight in shining armor blurts out, ‘What is hurting you for my mom to do this? Nothing. Ignorance isn’t an excuse to judge others.’ After which my husband turned and said, ‘Other people can hear you’re a judgemental person including my 9-year old that has more couth than you.’ They quickly left afterward with my son mean-mugging them the whole way.

A proud mommy moment when that phrase, ‘Ignorance isn’t an excuse to judge others,’ was understood by my son. Goodness knows I’ve told him that several times but it’s a lesson he has learned and demonstrated a great opportunity to teach someone the same lesson. My husband, on the other hand, surprised me. Usually, he would rise to the occasion of heated arguments but I think with our son doing what he did kind of put things into perspective for him.

This image has a lot of meaning. I know it’s supposed to tell a story by itself but there was so much more happening behind the scenes. I have more confidence in public to take photos thanks to my son, more patient thanks to my husband, and a little proud that I’m doing something right as a parent.

As for the photo I practiced framing the shot using the rule of thirds and wanted it to have a dramatic effect. The color palette I’m calling custom because I was able to pull out the classic Joke and Batman colors.

365 Day Project: 47

I started out strong this morning. Took it easy and rested until I remembered that I needed to get the groceries and guess who didn’t place an order online. Yup, this gal. So my husband went with me to help when my son chimed in, ‘Mom, I’ve got the birthday parties today.’ Oh damn…I forgot. Ok, not a problem. Groceries are done, gifts bought, home, wrap and rest. Wrong and wrong. He didn’t have one, not two, but three birthday parties today. The husband helped as much as possible and I made an appearance, gave my birthday hugs, and my husband helped me with an Irish exit so I can come home to shoot this photo quick and I have to lay down. I don’t want to but I may need to draw my comic tomorrow. My ulcer is reminding me who’s boss and I realized my son has a busier social calendar than I do.

But here it is the photo is Gato in the tulip. I can’t tell if his expression is inquisitive or mischevious. What do you think? I got a girly warm color palette out of the photo. Off to bed and happy Saturday Y’all!

365 Day Project: 44

So I thought that I would try another action figure for today’s photo. None of my dogs wanted to cooperate and look like they were trying to eat the toy. Instead, it looks like the Fortnite figure, Ragnarok (I just learned the name) is sneaking up on Dublin (yup actual doggy name). Now I think the name of the character is fitting. This made my day just that much better and the atmosphere from work disappear. I need more figures and ideas. Hit the coffee button so I can get more figures and gear for photos this year. I have the T Rex and the VW van so ideas would be greatly appreciated too. I need to look into easy mobile lighting gear for on the go with the cell to better light some of my shots. Hex codes for a semi-complimentary color palette are listed below from left to right. Happy Wednesday Y’all.
