A Quick Daily Study: Stanza 11

This morning I woke up late so things are going to be kind of short. I’m at stanza 11 of my Havamal. According to the Temple of Our Heathen Gods, stanzas 10-14 are kind of linked together. I like Chisholm’s version for this one.

A man bears no better burden,
when on the wilderness ways
than great wisdom. One can have no worse fare,
on road or field, than too much ale.

Pocket Version:

A worse provision on the way he can-
not carry than too much beer-bibbing; so
good is not, as it is said, beer for the sons
of men.

The first two lines are reminiscent of the lines from stanza 10 but the next lines are telling me that too much drink will not be as easy to carry. It also dulls the senses of being cautious, aware, and keeping your wits about you. I’m a social drinker meaning even at Sumbels or fires with the Kindred I only have a glass of mead outside of drinking from the horn. Whereas others are not in the same mind frame and that’s ok too. Another stanza reminding me to keep cautious, aware, and wits about.

6 Word Story: 6/19

What an absolutely frustrating morning. Last night we had storms that came through and knocked out the electric. Woke up, the electric is back on but I don’t have time to paint. Got ready for my walk and it’s still pouring! Tell you the truth a little panic set it. I cheated and did a sneak peek on the scale before the walk that never happened and I’m down to 189lbs! So, I will have to walk tonight which means a quick dinner and a battle with the humidity. Add the BS spam comment this morning, I’m not giving up but feeling overwhelmed and out of place.  It’s going to be a late night tonight.

I looked up today’s prompt and the first few searches were about a superhero character. Then I was reminded of a character in the movie, ‘The Mists of Avalon’ (the history behind this movie is a little dark) and the scene of a ritual. By definition, it’s a female that hunts game OR a female animal that hunts prey. This was a hard one as I’m trying to bring positive words and vibes and save all the spooky stuff for October.

Prompt Word: The Huntress

3.2.1…Quote Me Challenge

I feel like my writing is slacking a bit since I have been trying to watercolor everyday-gearing of for World Watercolor Month in July. I have been practicing a daily habit (some slips and here and there including my battle with chopping a sinister vegetable) of painting but it doesn’t leave me much time for anything else. I am able to get some writing done here at my day job but not only is it frowned upon (hehe) but I’m constantly interrupted by co-workers (how dare they work while at work). Then this little challenge was given to me to try my hand at and I can’t pass it up (even if late doing so) because I just love a good quote.  (I also have a couple of other challenges to catch up on, Fenton Friday Project, and Grotesque Angels)Here it goes:

Truth be told I haven’t come across this challenge creator’s blog as of yet but glad I did so. You can check his writing and ideas at 3.2.1 Quote Me. The awesome blogger who has given me a boost in the writing direction is Kristian. His short stories, haikus, and dare I say murder mysteries are a delight to read. Visit his blog for some inspiration from his tales and stories or just a relaxing read-a break from life.

I think I’m going to do my day quote word (since I’m late) and today’s prompt for my nominees. My Topic was: Experience. I have a lot of experience, especially in random nerdy things like all things 80’s (yup not afraid to let my 80’s nerd beam shine).

It is an old custom for the wisest to give way.

Basically, choose your battles.

No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.

As for Today’s Quote topic, it’s Success.

And the three bloggers I hope to take the challenge are:
